NEM Atlas replays the National Electricity Market one 5-minute dispatch interval at a time: every packed day, five regions (QLD, NSW, VIC, SA, TAS).

Terrain. Each of the 571 dispatchable units (generators and batteries; some placed at approximate coordinates) adds a Gaussian footprint weighted by the square root of its output in MW and by a price weight for its region. The price weight rises with asinh of the regional price and is raised further when the region trades above the five-region mean. A broad, capacity-weighted term per region carries the same weight into areas with little generation. Height and colour (indigo to white) show the sum. The vertical scale is set once per day, so heights compare within a day, not between days.

Orange marks a region at $300/MWh or more; the tint on its raised ground strengthens with price. Rings at a price tag count the level: one at $300, two at $1,000, three at $5,000. A ring runs outward when a price crosses one of these levels. Prices below $0 show in violet.

Day tape. Across the top, one column per day: dots above the line count the 5-minute intervals in which any region was at or above $300, dots below the intervals in which any region was below $0 (square-root scale; hover for the counts). Click a column to load the day.

Colour themes. The theme button (or T) switches between two palettes from WEFT Research, Landscape and Terra. Colours change; data, scales and thresholds do not.

Panels. Left: spot price by region through the day (asinh scale; dashed line at $300) and demand on a 24-hour clock. Right: the share of each fuel's fleet that is running, spare capacity (headroom) by region, and the battery fleet's net output (discharging up, charging down).

Controls. Drag to orbit. Right-drag, two-finger scroll, Shift-drag or W A S D to pan; a right-click swaps what a plain drag does. Scroll or pinch to zoom; double-click to centre on a point; R returns home. Space plays or pauses, ←/→ steps between days, L opens the day list, H hides the instruments, T changes the colour theme. Hover the terrain to list the units producing under the cursor. Playback slows near $300+ prices.
